Deacon Chairman
My Salvation Story:
When I was 12 years, old on the back porch of my grandfather’s house in Bayou Barbary, Louisiana, I accepted Christ as my Lord & Savior. I had become aware I needed Jesus personally.
I did all the church “things” and even played piano from 8 yrs old at Killian Baptist Church and then in my high school days at First Baptist Springfield (FBC). I was active in FBC Youth Group and in college days was a Billy Graham Counselor during two Baton Rouge crusade events.
In the 2nd semester of my sophomore year at LSU, I began to attend Bible studies offered by Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ) on how to share my faith.
During these Bible studies, I told God if I had missed Jesus on a technical issue as a boy, then let us get it straight now. God so sweetly over the next few weeks reminded me of all the times He had me in His hands. That if that 12-year-old boy in his asking Christ into his heart with a 12-year old’s understanding and faith could not be saved then no one could.
In the Bible studies I was introduced to the Ministry of the Holy Spirit. Never had the Holy Spirit’s ministry and life changing work been so clearly and understandably explained to me.
This new-to-me knowledge made all the difference in my Christian Walk with Christ.
After graduation from LSU, Cynthia and I served as Cru Lay Ministry Associate Staff leading LIFE (Lay Institute For Evangelism) training in churches in Louisiana and Mississippi.
I was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church, Springfield, Louisiana, September 6, 1981.
In 1997 my work moved to Houston, TX, and in April 1998 we relocated to the Field Store Community where we attended First Baptist Church Hempstead.
A new church in Field Store was noticed as we drove on our way to Hempstead. We checked it out and joined The Fellowship at Field Store.
I was recognized by The Fellowship at Field Store as a deacon on July 24, 2016, at the first deacon recognition service of the church.
Spouse: Cynthia (married June 2, 1972)
Children: Marcus & Susan Barton; Jeff & Kelly Greenwood

Favorite Bible Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”
